Remodeling Tips – Why Lighting Is One of the Most Important Steps To Remodeling Your Home

Task, Ambient, Decorative and Accent Lighting (TADA) is one of the most important features in your home. TADA lighting can help you achieve perfect lighting in any room  so it’s important that you invest wisely. TADA lighting is especially important in the kitchen, since it’s the busiest and most central part of your home.

Task Lighting

Often task lighting refers to increasing luminance to better accomplish a specific activity. However, the luminance level is not the only factor governing visibility. Contrast is also important, and a poorly positioned light source may cause contrast reduction, resulting in loss of visibility. A good example of task lighting is under cabinet lighting and overhead lamps. Task lighting is especially helpful in areas of food preparation.

Ambient Lighting

Ambient light is the light that exists in a scene. Ambient Lighting is referred to as “natural light” or “existing light,” ambient light can be the found light inside a home, any kind of pre-existing light. This is found light, not additional light that you, might choose to add. LED light typically works well as the color temperature consistent with the natural lighting of the rest of the room’s lighting. Use dimmers with your overhead lighting so you can both adjust and save on energy cost.

Decorative Lighting

Decorative lighting is the third layer of interior illumination and, simply put, it is like jewelry for the home: it helps your space sparkle and shine. Decorative lighting above the work island and kitchen table will create a welcoming, transitional space that is completely functional.

Accent Lighting

Accent lighting focuses light on a particular area or object. It is often used to highlight art or other artifacts. Common types of accent lights include wall sconces, floodlights, recessed lights, torchère lamps, or track lighting. The brighter light from the accent lamp creates visual interest to a room. An example would be lighting inside a china cabinet to showcase collectibles. This type of lighting adds drama and style to a room.
